Delhi Lt Governor’s nod to appointment of 232 doctors in government hospitals

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the posting of 232 General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) across various government hospitals in the national capital. The move came as a response to the long-standing challenges faced in the medical sector due to vacancies.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) appointed these doctors as part of a strategic effort to fill the gaps.
Classified as Group A officers, these medical professionals will be deployed through the National Capital Services Selection Authority (NCSSA) to hospitals including Lok Nayak, Raja Harish Chandra, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, among others, as well as numerous Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) offices.
Their appointments are expected to alleviate the pressures and challenges that have plagued Delhi’s healthcare system, largely attributed to years of delay in the permanent appointment of doctors.
Earlier, the Delhi government appointed doctors on a contractual basis before the appointment of the GDMOs in state-run hospitals. The new appointments are expected to provide stability and improve the quality of healthcare services offered in the capital.
Addressing the vacancies with permanent positions is expected to ensure a more robust healthcare system.
